through mine eyes
it may have something to do with my current conjunctival state, which requires me to wear my OSHA-approved explosion-proof coke bottle glasses supplied to me by my last job. i don't don the side shields unless i'm feeling particularly devo. i've considered getting a pair of prada or dkny rectangular specs for the socially disenchanted fashion moralist, but i don't have the coin. it may prove to be a worthwhile investment, however, considering how many times this year i've had to bust out my 'revenge of the nerds'-style frames due to acute pink eye of unknown origin.
anyway, walking around in these rec-specs leaves me feeling pretty geeky, even moreso than my usual state. don't even ask me how i drive without peripheral vision; i downright fear the lane change during this time of visual inadequacy. but has my brain been affected? while i was in the dressing room at the gym today, i overheard this squawk-box broad going on and on to a comrade, saying "don't be nervous tomorrow, it'll go fine, really just relax, i know it's really major and important but don't sweat it." my background daydream theatre immediately cued up a fellow grad or med student preparing for a seminar or important interview, and i began thinking of how my own levels of nervousness have decreased with each successive professional venture, and i considered imparting this pearl of wisdom when her whisky-voiced friend began moaning about the enormity of it all, the insurmountable task ahead..and then the first girl said, "it's not like you've never been on a date before, honey you'll be just fine!" and i balked upright at the sheer incongruity of my own thoughts and the actual situation at hand. and it amused me how our own experiences can color eavesdropping so blatantly, and i thanked myself, my parents, and my educators for making me the kind of person that would consider such stress levels worthy of a seminar, but not dinner and a movie for two in worcester.
glasses or no, i am often brought up short - and only sometimes pleasantly so - by the difference in my perspectives from reality.

yo ninja. Cathye had the same problem until she got disposable contacts. They're a little more weight on the wallet, but she hasn't had a problem since.....just throwing that out there.

The biggest issue I had with glasses was rain/snow. Nothing got on my nerves more than water on the lenses. That and when they would fall into an engine bay. I actually think I look better in glasses but they annoyed me too much. I have these great "leave them in for howevs long" contacts. 3 or so months and counting. It's like I don't have broken eyes anymore.
