obstacle course
today was my last serious exam.
kz's gone on business this week. the contractor man who came to re-grout the bathroom was creepy, so i didn't want to sleep at home. yesterday, i had a serious unisom hangover and could barely get out of bed. i went to the gym and felt lightheaded and tired. i got my coffee and thought my day was starting to look up as i rushed toward campus for class.
then i cracked up my car rear-ending someone at a typical worcester yield. then class was boring. then i couldn't get my hood shut so i drive to my friend dave's house going 40 with my hazards on the highway, praying for no bumps. and then i had to wolf down dinner because we were late for meeting up with my old boss for ice cream. then my menstrual cramps started in all pick-axe style, and i attempted to quiet the gnomes with chocolate cherry ice cream from coldstone, but the cherries tasted rubbery and they assured me that was normal, but made me a new mint ice cream instead. and even that just wasn't so good. then i wired my hood shut tighter than a 13 year old's headgear.
and then as i was drifting off reading my exam note cards in another happy unisom haze, i noticed my ass was on the floor and my air mattress was slowly sighing. then i slept on the couch, and anyone who knows me knows I DON'T SLEEP ON THE FUCKING COUCH. then i got up 5 hours later and forgot my underwear and couldn't find parking and avoided the coffee lady because i owe her money, and went and took my exam for 2.5 hand-cramping hours during which i recited the alphabet song 4 times in a row trying to remember the name of the class of minus-end microtuble motors. it's dyenin; i never remembered it.
and you know what? i'm in a fantastic mood. it's warmish out. it's 3 weeks to the wedding. my labmates are taking me out to sushi to celebrate. and having cracked up my car, i now join the ranks of my new lab, as every single member has totalled or boffed their car in the last 4 months. it must be official.
AND I'M FUCKING DONE WITH CORE COURSE AND I'M BUYING ME A UMASS MED SWEATSHIRT BECAUSE I'M HERE TO STAY! damn right.

What a bummer about the car wreck, but awesome news about finishing your core classes! I told you that you would be ok! Grad school seriously gets better from here on out. In other news, Kris and I are going out with Andrew for dinner tonight - the work trip you mentioned has brought him surprisingly close to our neck of the woods...er, country. See you in three weeks!
